Small bathrooms are actually some of my favorite rooms to decorate. You don’t have a lot of space to fill, so every little choice can add personality without turning into a huge project.
I especially love an eclectic bathroom because nothing has to match perfectly. You can mix old and new pieces, warm colors, playful patterns, natural wood, and little treasures you already own.
If you’re working with a tiny bathroom or powder room, I’d focus on one bold feature first. Then you can slowly layer in smaller details until the room feels collected, cozy, and very much like you.
1. Start With Bold Botanical Wallpaper
I love botanical wallpaper in a small bathroom because it gives you an instant focal point. I’d choose a deep green, rust, mustard, or dusty pink pattern and pair it with a simple white sink so the room still feels balanced.
A vintage brass mirror, woven basket, and tiny plant are enough to finish the look. Keep the lighting warm with a small wall sconce, and let the wallpaper do most of the decorating.
2. Mix Vintage Art Around the Mirror
One thing I always notice in eclectic bathrooms is the artwork. Instead of hanging one large piece, try surrounding your mirror with a few small vintage-inspired prints in mismatched wood and brass frames.
You can mix florals, landscapes, sketches, and even a tiny painted portrait. I’d keep one or two colors running through the artwork so everything feels connected without looking too planned.
3. Bring in a Colorful Vintage Vanity
Sometimes one special piece of furniture is all a tiny bathroom needs. A vintage vanity painted dusty blue, olive green, burgundy, or warm terracotta can become the main feature of the whole room.
I’d pair it with a simple stone or white countertop, an aged brass faucet, and a slightly imperfect vintage mirror. Add a little woven rug underfoot and soft amber lighting to make the space feel warm rather than busy.
4. Try Patterned Floor Tile
If you’re nervous about putting a bold pattern on the walls, I’d start with the floor. Patterned tile in faded blue, cream, rust, black, or earthy green adds character while leaving your walls open for simpler decor.
I think this looks especially nice with warm white walls, rustic wood accents, and a round mirror. Keep towels and larger pieces fairly simple so the patterned floor stays the star.
5. Add Open Shelves With Collected Decor
Open shelving works so well in a small bathroom when you don’t overload it. I’d use two or three rustic wood shelves above the toilet and mix practical items with a few things you simply love looking at.
Folded towels, a trailing plant, an amber bottle, a small candle, and a piece of vintage art can create that collected look. Leave a little empty space between objects because eclectic decor should feel layered, not cluttered.
6. Use a Jewel-Toned Accent Wall
A deep wall color can make a small bathroom feel surprisingly cozy. I love emerald green, teal, plum, burgundy, and deep blue, especially when the rest of the room has lighter tile or a white sink.
Try adding an antique gold mirror and warm brass sconces against the darker wall. Natural wood, woven baskets, and soft cotton towels bring in texture and keep all that rich color from feeling too heavy.
7. Hang an Unexpected Shower Curtain
You don’t need to redo the whole bathroom to give it an eclectic feel. A shower curtain with florals, block prints, stripes, folk-inspired patterns, or warm retro colors can completely change what you notice first.
I’d pull one or two colors from the curtain and repeat them in a bath mat, hand towel, or little vase. Keep the rest loose and simple, and use warm lighting so all those colors feel soft at night.
8. Mix Brass, Wood, and Painted Details
I don’t think every finish in an eclectic bathroom needs to match. In fact, I usually like it better when you have warm brass hardware beside natural wood, painted cabinets, handmade ceramics, and maybe a little black metal.
The trick is repeating each material somewhere else in the room. If you have a brass faucet, for example, add a brass frame or sconce so it looks intentional rather than random.
9. Create a Tiny Gallery Wall
A blank bathroom wall is such a fun place for a mini gallery. I’d gather four or five small pieces like botanical prints, old postcards, tiny paintings, or simple line drawings and hang them fairly close together.
Mismatched frames make this idea even better, especially when you combine dark wood, brass, and painted finishes. Add a little picture light or nearby wall sconce if you can because layered lighting makes the artwork feel extra cozy.
10. Add a Vintage Mirror With Character
My favorite part of many eclectic small bathrooms is the mirror. An ornate gold frame, carved wood mirror, unusual oval shape, or slightly aged finish can bring personality even when everything around it is simple.
I’d hang it above a clean white or wood vanity and add two small sconces nearby. A ceramic soap dish, tiny vase, and patterned hand towel are really all you need to support the look without competing with the mirror.
11. Layer Plants, Textiles, and Little Treasures
If you’re like me, you probably have little decor pieces around the house that you love but don’t know where to put. A small bathroom can be a sweet spot for a trailing plant, colorful rug, woven basket, handmade vase, candle, and one or two quirky finds.
I’d vary the textures instead of adding lots of extra colors. Soft cotton, natural wood, glazed ceramic, woven fibers, and leafy greenery make the room feel layered while still giving you enough visual breathing room.
An eclectic bathroom doesn’t have to happen all at once. I think these spaces actually look better when you decorate slowly and add pieces as you find things you genuinely love.
Start with your favorite idea, whether that’s wallpaper, a vintage mirror, patterned tile, or simply a colorful shower curtain. Have fun with it, change things around when you feel like it, and give yourself time to create a little bathroom that truly feels like you.
